Who will win The Masked Singer season 3? Who are behind the remaining masks?
18 contestants entered season three of The Masked Singer, which premiered in February. Now, with the semi-finals having come and gone, only three contestants remain: Turtle, Frog and Night Angel.
However, a select few contestants also came close to taking the trophy. Along with the three finalists, six of their masked companions also advanced from the group stage into the Super 9.
In order of elimination, they were: White Tiger, Kangaroo, Banana, Astronaut, Kitty and Rhino.
As six of the Super 9 have been eliminated, their identities are now known. There are guesses for the final three, but they will not be confirmed or disproven until the unmaskings in the Grand Final.
Courageous Nerd previously published an article on how the performer behind the Kitty mask could use the experience to her advantage. Now, we look at all of the fallen Super 9 singers.
White Tiger (Rob Gronkowski)
While obviously not a singer by profession, newly minted Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Rob Gronkowski has capitalised on his time as the White Tiger.
Days after his elimination, Gronkowski hosted WrestleMania, WWE’s flagship event of the year.
Additionally, while he was still considered retired during his experience on The Masked Singer, Gronkowski’s trade to the Buccaneers was announced less than three weeks after being unmasked.
Kangaroo (Jordyn Woods)
Prior to her appearance on The Masked Singer, Jordyn Woods was not known for her singing ability. Woods’ claim to fame was appearing on Keeping Up With The Kardashians.
Shortly afterwards, Woods announced that she was planning on releasing an album.
Banana (Bret Michaels)
Former Poison frontman Bret Michaels was the next to go, being unveiled as Banana on April 22.
In an unexpected, poignant twist, Michaels’ elimination episode aired on the ten year anniversary of his brain haemorrhage.
Following Michaels’ departure from the competition, the release of his first book was announced.
Astronaut (Hunter Hayes)
Reaching the top six, Hayes’ time on the show correlated with the singer’s plans for his upcoming new album, Red Sky.
As revealed by Hayes himself, he also got to develop skills that he did not have previously, such as learning and performing choreography.
Kitty (Jackie Evancho)
Former America’s Got Talent runner-up Jackie Evancho was revealed as Kitty on May 6, finishing in fifth place overall.
As alluded to during clue packages and later said by Evancho herself, portraying the adult, sultry Kitty was a way to break out of a ten year old’s public image. This was how old Evancho had been on America’s Got Talent.
The Masked Singer also gave Evancho an opportunity to sing different songs rather than her usual operatic style, much like Katherine Jenkins on The Masked Singer UK.
Rhino (Barry Zito)
Best known as a baseball pitcher for the Oakland Athletics and San Francisco Giants, Barry Zito made it all the way to the semi-finals under the Rhino mask. He was eliminated on May 13.
Since retiring from baseball in 2015, Zito has forayed into music prior to The Masked Singer although this was not widely known.
Having now showed his impressive vocals on a highly popular singing show for weeks, Zito is taking steps to becoming more known for music rather than just baseball.
The Masked Singer airs Wednesdays on FOX.
Another week has passed on The Masked Singer and there is a new addition to the list of unmasked celebrities in season three. On May 13, Rhino became the latest celebrity to get the boot from the mystery singing competition.
Finishing in fourth place just one week shy of the final, he was revealed as former baseball pitcher turned musician Barry Zito, who played for the Oakland Athletics and San Francisco Giants.
Some of the songs that Zito performed during his time as the Rhino were “Nice to Meet Ya” by Niall Horan and “Tracks of My Tears” by Smokey Robinson and The Miracles, among others.
Following his elimination, Zito spoke with Entertainment Weekly and discussed his experience on The Masked Singer. When asked if fans outside of baseball would recognise him, Zito said, ” I knew that if people had known me as the baseball player, that I was musically inclined and had released some music in the past, then they might connect the dots.”
He added, “But I think people were thrown off the trail for a while until judge Jenny McCarthy threw it out there. On my fourth or fifth performance, she kinda went on this rant about how I was married to Amber [Seyer], who was Miss Missouri at one point. I was actually quite shocked. I thought I had everyone fooled.”
Zito also told EW that he was a fan of The Masked Singer before being approached to the show, saying that “I have young kids, and so we would watch the show. It’s just a great family-fun show. It came across my desk back in December. At that point, my wife and I were five, six months pregnant. We were going to be having a baby in late March. I knew that the shooting schedule was kind of butting up to that red zone, if you will. I ended up doing it and my wife was very supportive.”
With Zito’s departure, only three contestants now remain in the running: Turtle, Frog and Night Angel. The final to crown this season’s ‘Golden Mask’ winner airs on May 20.
The Masked Singer airs Wednesdays on FOX.
Ten years after finishing as runner-up on America’s Got Talent, singer Jackie Evancho reunited with former AGT host Nick Cannon on a much different reality television series.
Evancho was revealed in the quarter-finals of The Masked Singer to have been the performer under the Kitty mask. This confirmed prevalent guesses across social media that the 20-year-old was the anonymous performer all along.
As Kitty, Evancho finished in fifth place on the third season, behind fellow performers Turtle, Frog, Night Angel and Rhino.
Other guesses included Vanessa Hudgens, Lucy Hale, Emma Roberts and Nicole Richie.
Now that Evancho is out of The Masked Singer, there is renewed attention of her music and career in general. Some saw her as an obscure choice of celebrity to be featured on the show and thus were not able to guess Evancho’s identity.
Having shown she can sing more than just the operatic style that made her famous, Evancho will no doubt have exciting opportunities awaiting her in the coming weeks and months. After the reveal, Evancho explained her motivation for doing the show as a way to separate herself from the 10-year-old girl that people still saw her as.
One of the judges, Robin Thicke, advised Evancho after her unmasking that she should “enjoy the time that [you’re] in right now” rather than worrying about what came before or what is to come.
You can follow Evancho on Twitter at @jackieevancho or on Instagram at @officialjackieevancho.
The Masked Singer continues with its semi-final episode on May 13, airing on FOX.
Who will win The Masked Singer US? All the latest fan theories and guesses *METRO.CO.UK Writing Sample*
The Masked Singer US has whittled the contestants down to just four, with Kitty being the latest eliminated and revealed as former America’s Got Talent star Jackie Evancho. None of the judges, including Ken Jeong, Nicole Scherzinger, Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy and guest panellist Jeff Dye correctly guessed Evancho as Kitty.
Only Turtle, Rhino, Night Angel and Frog are still in the running to win the coveted Golden Mask trophy in just two weeks time.
With the finale being so close, fans are divided on which Masked Singer they want to emerge victorious.
Since debuting as part of Group A back in February, Turtle has been one of the front runners to win season three. Viewers believe he’s actually former teen heartthrob Jesse McCartney.
His performances have included “Kiss from a Rose” by Seal and “Let It Go” by James Bay.
Rhino joined the fray as a member of Group C in early March and has become a dark horse in the competitions. Fans believe that former baseball pitcher Barry Zito is the man behind the mask.
Also a member of Group C, Night Angel is now the sole surviving female vocalist in season three. Avid viewers have pinpointed reality TV star and XScape singer Kandi Burruss as Night Angel’s true identity.
Frog hopped into Group B during mid-February alongside the likes of eliminated contestants Kitty, Taco and Banana. He has impressed judges with his versatile rapping and dancing.
The theory is that rapper/actor Bow Wow is under the mask.
The Masked Singer US airs Wednesdays on FOX.
There are only five contestants remaining on The Masked Singer – and country singer Hunter Hayes has picked a favourite to win it all.
Hayes competed as The Astronaut during season three of the top secret reality singing competition, being eliminated on April 29. He finished in sixth place.
Now that Hayes is out of the running, he has chosen who he would like to see take the Golden Mask Trophy – and the answer may surprise you.
Speaking to Access, Hayes endorsed his onetime adversary Turtle as the person who could take it all the way.
Hayes said, “I think Turtle can win. I’m a huge fan of Frog, massive fan, but yeah, I don’t know, Turtle is just so talented and such a great performer.”
He continued by adding, “Even though we were competitive, I feel like because we were competitive, we kind of accidentally bonded silently without being able to talk to each other. You know what I mean? That experience together. I’m a fan. I’ll be cheering on Turtle until the very end.”
The Masked Singer continues with its quarter-final episode on May 6, airing on FOX.
The Masked Singer‘s third season is heading into the quarter-finals and just five anonymous contestants now remain – Frog, Kitty, Night Angel, Rhino and Turtle.
On the April 29 episode, Astronaut became the thirteenth contestant to be unmasked. He was revealed as country music star Hunter Hayes, as Courageous Nerd had already predicted.
Now that so few masked celebrities remain in the show, fans seem sure that they have deduced the remaining secret identities.
Let’s take a look at the final five and who the online detectives have determined are hiding behind the masks.
Frog – Bow Wow
Rapper Bow Wow has been a guess for The Frog since the early weeks of the competition.
Particularly, in the April 29 episode, clues that fans picked up on included buckeyes chocolate (referencing his home state, Ohio) and basketball clues such as a number 3 jersey referring to ‘Like Mike’.
Also in the April 29 episode, Bow Wow was guessed for in an episode for the first time, by judge Robin Thicke.
Kitty – Jackie Evancho
Former America’s Got Talent contestant Evancho has been a strong contender for Kitty. Clues such as a Red Riding Hood-esque cape referring to Evancho playing the role in a school musical.
Night Angel – Kandi Burruss
With clues compiled by Gold Derby, it seems pretty clear that Night Angel is Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kandi Burruss. An example is that Burruss’ Gold Records and Grammy Award nominations contribute to the total amount of all eighteen contestants.
Rhino – Barry Zito
Like many fans, Jenny McCarthy may have pieced together Rhino’s true identity as former baseball pitcher Barry Zito. A crown on the state of Missouri pointed McCarthy towards Zito, who is married to former Miss Missouri Amber Seyer.
Turtle – Jesse McCartney
Like many of the other final five contestants, Turtle has had one definitive guess from early on: singer-songwriter Jesse McCartney. Recent clues pointing in this direction include a chess game, a crown and a heart which reference McCartney’s role as a voice actor in the Kingdom Hearts video game series.
The Masked Singer returns for its quarter final episode on May 6, airing on FOX.
The Masked Singer UK, the latest adaptation of South Korea’s King Of Mask Singer, aired on ITV throughout January and February 2020.
Twelve celebrities, decked out in elaborate costumes, competed to keep their identities hidden until the very end. Some of the reveals included megastar American musician CeeLo Green as Monster while Girls Aloud’s Nicola Roberts took the crown as Queen Bee.
As there were only twelve participants, very few celebrities have yet to take part in the show.
Read on for twelve choices who should be in Season 2.
Mel C – Singer, The Spice Girls
Melanie Chisholm, better known as Mel C, was a member of influential girl group The Spice Girls. The band first formed in 1994 and has subsequently had multiple reunions, the most recent being in 2018.
Mel C is no stranger to reality television, appearing as a judge or mentor on various series. Some examples include Asia’s Got Talent, The X Factor Australia and Superstar.
She was also an incorrect guess for Duck prior to that reveal as Skunk Anansie’s lead singer Skin.
Alan Carr – Comedian
Like Season 1’s runner-up, Carr is a successful comedian and household name in the UK.
While his distinct mannerisms and voice would likely make it obvious who the masked character is, Carr would be an interesting addition to the show.
Jade Thirlwall – Singer, Little Mix
Thirlwall is a member of Little Mix, a highly successful girl group who won The X Factor in 2011, the first band to accomplish this feat.
Throughout season one of The Masked Singer UK, Thirlwall was a primary guess for the true identity of Queen Bee, the eventual winner.
Seeing how excited Thirlwall’s fans were when it was believed she could be Queen Bee, having her actually be on the show might be a good idea.
Seeing how excited Thirlwall’s fans were when it was believed she could be Queen Bee, having her actually be on the show might be a good idea.
Jamie Redknapp – Former Professional Footballer
Son of Harry Redknapp and one-time midfielder for AFC Bournemouth, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton. He now works as a pundit for Sky Sports.
Redknapp is no stranger to television, appearing since 2010 on A League Of Their Own and also presented Football’s Next Star.
Kym Marsh – Actress/Singer
Most recently, Marsh is known for playing Michelle Connor on Coronation Street between 2006 and 2019.
Prior to finding success on the soap, Marsh was a member of the band Hear’Say (alongside Myleene Klass, Suzanne Shaw, Danny Foster and Noel Sullivan), which formed on the television series Popstars in 2001.
Marsh was also guessed during season one of The Masked Singer UK, being speculated as the Fox.
Alexander Armstrong – Comedian/Presenter of ‘Pointless’
Armstrong has found success both in comedy and daytime television. He is known for his successful partnership with Ben Miller as Armstrong & Miller. Their work has included their own series, The Armstrong & Miller Show, for three years between 2007 and 2010.
Since 2009, Armstrong has also hosted the BBC quiz Pointless alongside former University contemporary Richard Osman.
Additionally, Armstrong has also already dabbled in music, releasing two albums in 2015 and 2016.
It also helps that he was guessed as Hedgehog during season one…
Rag ‘n’ Bone Man – Singer
Since releasing his first hit single, titled “Human” in 2016 and his album of the same name during the following year, Rag ‘n’ Bone Man (real name Rory Graham) has made a major breakthrough in music.
He has collaborated with other artists including Calvin Harris and Zucchero Fornaciari.
Ashley Roberts – Singer, The Pussycat Dolls
American-born Roberts has made a number of appearances on British television since finishing as runner-up on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here in 2012.
Since then, she has appeared on major ITV programming such as Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway and Dancing On Ice as well as participating in Strictly Coming Dancing in 2018.
So, why not add The Masked Singer to that list?
After all, Roberts’ bandmate Nicole Scherzinger is a judge on the American counterpart and she was believed to be Octopus during the early weeks of The Masked Singer UK.
Emily Atack – Actress (The Inbetweeners)
Atack is an actress, known for playing Charlotte Hincliffe on The Inbetweeners as well as appearing in the 2016 Dad’s Army film.
She has participated in ITV reality shows including Dancing On Ice, Celebrity Juice and I’m A Celebrity… parlaying the latter into a new career as a presenter on the spin-off, Extra Camp.
One of Atack’s co-hosts on Extra Camp before its cancellation was The Masked Singer UK presenter Joel Dommett.
Atack has also parodied the series during a skit on The One Show.
Michael Ball – Actor/Singer/Stage Performer
Ball, known for his work on stage, has held many notable roles including Marius in the original West End cast of Les Miserables and Raoul in Phantom of the Opera.
He has additionally represented the United Kingdom in the 1992 Eurovision Song Contest and in 1989, achieved a number two on the UK Singles Chart with the song “Love Changes Everything.”
As a highly successful vocalist, someone of Ball’s caliber would be a coup for The Masked Singer UK.
Robbie Williams – Singer
Williams has achieved great success in his music career, first as a member of Take That (which he rejoined between 2010-2012) and later as a solo artist.
While his name was never suggested in his home country, Williams was a guess for an American Masked Singer – Rottweiler, during their season two.
He is a face known all over the UK and has a distinctive voice, so putting Williams into The Masked Singer‘s unique set-up would be an interesting situation.
A grand total of eighteen contestants began competing on The Masked Singer on February – and the number has been whittled down quickly.
As of the April 22 episode, twelve of the celebrity line-up have been unveiled, leaving just six remaining anonymous and in the game.
But who were the 12 that surrendered their masks? Read on to find out.
Robot – Lil Wayne
Rapper Lil Wayne was the first contestant to be revealed, during the Group A kickoff on February 2, following the Super Bowl.
Llama – Drew Carey
Carey (following in the footsteps of former colleague Wayne Brady), the longtime host of Whose Line, was next to go, being unveiled on February 5.
Miss Monster – Chaka Khan
“I’m Every Woman” vocalist Khan was the final member of Group A to be eliminated in the early stages of the competition, being unmasked on February 12.
Elephant – Tony Hawk
Legendary skateboarder was the first member of Group B to lose his head (the masked one), being revealed as the man behind Elephant on February 19.
Dionne Warwick – Mouse
Warwick, following in the path of contemporaries such as Gladys Knight and Patti LaBelle, was hiding under the Mouse mask. The second Group B member to be eliminated, Warwick departed on February 26.
Taco – Tom Bergeron
Longtime Dancing With The Stars and America’s Funniest Home Videos Bergeron was the final Group B member to lose out on the Super 9, being eliminated on March 4.
Bear – Sarah Palin
In one of the show’s most shocking unmaskings, Group C’s rapping Bear was revealed to be former Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin, on March 11.
Swan – Bella Thorne
Thorne, formerly best known for starring as CeCe Jones in Disney Channel’s Shake It Up, was unveiled as Swan on March 18.
T-Rex – Jojo Siwa
The youngest contestant in the show’s history to date, T-Rex was exposed as dancer and YouTube personality Jojo Siwa on March 25.
White Tiger – Rob Gronkowski
The first of the Super 9 to get the boot, err, paw. White Tiger was revealed to be Gronkowski on April 1, after weeks of online speculation.
Kangaroo – Jordyn Woods
The second of the Super 9 to leave after losing a tense SmacDown to Astronaut, Kangaroo hopped out of the show after being revealed as reality TV star Jordyn Woods.
Banana – Bret Michaels
Michaels, front man of the rock band Poison, is the latest to be revealed, as of writing. He was revealed as Banana on April 22. Michaels was the first Group B member to leave post-Super 9.
While the format originated in South Korea as King Of Mask Singer, the American iteration has since been replicated worldwide in Australia, Germany, Russia and the UK.
In the first season, professional singers dominated the twelve-person lineup, including Gladys Knight, LaToya Jackson, Donny Osmond and T-Pain.
Of season two’s 18 competitors, eight had sung professionally in their past, with acclaimed vocalists such as Seal, Patti LaBelle, Chris Daughtry and Adrienne Bailon taking part.
The show faced backlash on April 15 for airing a karaoke-based “sing-a-long” special instead of an actual episode, during which old clips of the remaining seven contestants were replayed with subtitled lyrics.
The Masked Singer airs on FOX.
