On April 15 2020, it was publicly announced by various outlets that CBS had cancelled God Friended Me, an uplifting comedy-drama that is near the end of its second season. As of this writing, the reason for the cancellation is not yet known.
The series was co-created by Bryan Wynbrandt and Steven Lilien (Gotham, Alcatraz) and starred Brandon Micheal Hall (The Mayor, Search Party), Violett Beane (The Flash, Truth or Dare), Suraj Sharma (Life Of Pi, Million Dollar Arm), Javicia Leslie (The Family Business, MacGyver), Joe Morton (Scandal, Eureka) and Erica Gimpel (Veronica Mars, JAG).

God Friended Me followed Miles Finer (Hall), a young man who, despite being raised by a preacher, had lost his faith in God. He has a podcast called The Millennial Prophet and was close friends with his co-worker Rakesh (Sharma) at the company Identity Seal.
One day, Miles received a friend request from a Facebook account calling themselves God. After initially being sceptical, he gave in and the account started sending him names of people (‘friend suggestions’) around New York City who were in need of help. On some occasions, they did not even realise what exactly was the problem and Miles helped them figure it out.
Miles was joined in his journey by Cara Bloom (Beane), a young journalist who was the second friend suggestion that he ever received as well as Rakesh, his sister Ali ( Leslie) and father Arthur (Morton), the aforementioned preacher. In the second season, Arthur married his girlfriend Trish (Gimpel).

Throughout the run, many acclaimed actors guest-starred as either a friend suggestion, someone close to the suggestion, a person in one of the main characters’ lives and in very rare cases, someone unrelated to the God Account.
Some examples included Rachel Bay Jones (Dear Evan Hansen) as Cara’s mother Susan, Tom Everett Scott (Southland) as Cara’s stepfather Paul, TR Knight (Grey’s Anatomy) as Gideon, the first ‘prophet’ for the God Account and Derek Luke (13 Reasons Why) as Henry Chase, a man suspected of being behind the account in the first season.
God Friended Me will conclude its run on April 26, airing on CBS.
