The Grand Final of ITV’s The Masked Singer aired last night. As well as crowning a winner, we also found out who all three remaining performers truly were as well as the nine eliminated celebrities returning for a group number to kick off the show.
Competing in the final were the last male standing, Hedgehog as well as Queen Bee and Octopus, who had both been consistently strong over the past few weeks.
For the first portion of the episode, each contestant sang one song. Queen Bee performed Somebody Else’s Guy by Jocelyn Brown, Hedgehog sang Cry Me A River by Ella Fitzgerald and finally, Octopus entertained the audience with her rendition of Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious from Mary Poppins.
Following an audience vote, it was decided that Octopus would be finishing in third place.
Throughout the eight weeks, Octopus had continually thrown off the judges and viewers with clues leading in different directions. This included her operatic voice, alluding to Emmerdale and initially speaking in an American accent.
Octopus was revealed as….
Welsh opera singer Katherine Jenkins, who had previously been guessed on Twitter by many viewers prior to the reveal.
The final two, Hedgehog and Queen Bee, then performed their second songs of the evening. Buzzing off the audience’s energy, Queen Bee sang Somebody You Love by Lewis Capaldi while Hedgehog opted for Black Magic by Little Mix.
They had each sung those respective songs earlier in the series and had selected them as their favourites.
After eight long weeks, Queen Bee was crowned as winner of The Masked Singer.
However, before she could bask in her victory, we discovered the identity of Hedgehog, the runner-up who equally deserved to have won.
Some of Hedgehog’s clues included a job that involved dying at 8:30 every night, links to Manchester and performing as a profession.
He was revealed as…
Comedian Jason Manford, who had also been sussed out prior to being unveiled. Although Jason has sung professionally having recorded albums and performed on the West End, his superb vocals were not widely known with guesses such as Michael Ball and Alfie Boe being suggested for Hedgehog.
That leaves just one remaining anonymous celebrity. Queen Bee, who as well as being the winner, also kicked the series off as the first performer on the first episode.
Some clues that had been picked up on included links to a TV singing competition, a girl band (Little Mix and Girls Aloud being thrown out) and had changed the law in some way.
Queen Bee was revealed as…
Girls Aloud singer Nicola Roberts, who was one of the leading guesses for Queen Bee.
With Girls Aloud being the band in question, they were formed on Pop Stars: The Rivals (which future The Masked Singer judge Davina McCall presented) and changed the law by banning sunbeds for those under the age of eighteen.
Congrats to Nicola on her victory as well as Jason and Katherine for reaching the final.
Not to mention presenter Joel Dommett, the judging panel of Ken Jeong, Davina McCall, Rita Ora and Jonathan Ross.
And, of course, the other nine celebrities who took part – Patsy Palmer (Butterfly), Alan Johnson (Pharaoh), Justin Hawkins (Chameleon), Teddy Sheringham (Tree), Kelis (Daisy), Skin (Duck), Jake Shears (Unicorn), Denise Van Outen (Fox) and CeeLo Green (Monster).
