The Santa Clauses Bernard

David Krumholtz returns as Bernard the Elf in The Santa Clauses new trailer released at D23.

The Santa Clauses – the Disney+ sequel to The Santa Clause film series dropped its first trailer at D23 on September 10.

The trailer teased Tim Allen’s return as Scott Calvin/Santa Claus, alongside Elizabeth Mitchell as Carol Calvin, Mrs Clause.

It also gave fans their first look at Bernard the Elf’s big return. David Krumholtz played the role in the first 2 films; the latter having been released two decades ago.

Bernard served as Santa’s “Head Elf” in the first two films. He also welcomed Scott and his son Charlie (Eric Lloyd) to The North Pole in the original film.

Krumholtz was around 16 and 24 respectively in his previous performances as Bernard. He returns to the role aged 44, with a wide variety of other credits under his belt.

However, new characters have taken on the Head Elf role since. It remains to be seen how Bernard factors into The Santa Clauses.

Scheduling conflicts with Num3brs meant Krumholtz could not return for the third film – 2006’s The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause starring Allen, Mitchell, Spencer Breslin, Alan Arkin and Martin Short, among others.

Since his last appearance as Bernard in 2002, Krumholtz went on to roles in Harold & Kumar, Sausage Party and Superbad, among others.

Krumholtz also starred in TV series such as Billions, The Deuce and Star vs The Forces Of Evil. In 2021, Krumholtz appeared on an episode of WWE’s flagship series Monday Night Raw, playing a fake Drew McIntyre.

The Santa Clauses has also added former House and Designated Survivor actor Kal Penn, playing new character “Simon Choski”, a single father and game inventor.

The series will stream on Disney+ from November 16, beginning with a two-part episode.
