Jaidyn Triplett

Jaidyn Triplett chatted about reprising her role as ‘Millicent’ in iCarly Season 2, as well as her wider acting career.

While you may recognise rising actress Jaidyn Triplett for playing ‘Millicent’ on Paramount+ iCarly revival (returning for Season 2 on April 8th), she has appeared in several other projects.

We chat with Jaidyn about reprising her iCarly role for Season 2, joining an established cast and much more. Read on below for Jaidyn’s full interview with Courageous Nerd.

As you’re known for playing ‘Millicent’ on iCarly for Paramount+ Who or what inspired you to pursue an acting career?

Jaidyn Triplett: Well, my Dad has been acting for a very long time. When I was around 2-3 years old, he would come home from auditions and I would be reading his scripts. He’s like, “Oh, wow, you’re really good at memorising and reading lines.” So, he started to get me into the acting business. Ever since I’ve just loved it.

You’ve also appeared in episodes of See, Station 19 and Black-ish. Do you have a favourite non-iCarly role that you’ve played so far?

Jaidyn Triplett: I think I have two. All of them have been amazing, I met so many great people. I think Black-ish and Family Reunion. I got to meet Tia Mowry and Loretta Devine on Family Reunion. On Black-ish, I got to meet [Anthony Anderson, who plays Andre]. That was a really nice one.

On iCarly, your character is introduced as the adopted step-daughter of Freddie Benson (Nathan Kress), a returning character. Did playing a character that had a history with an original character have any impact on your performance?

Jaidyn Triplett: I think we just went straight in. Nathan is an actual Dad outside of the set. It was kind of like a dynamic that just appeared there. It felt like riding a bike, to me.

As you were born during the original iCarly‘s run on Nickelodeon, have you had a chance to watch the series?

Jaidyn Triplett: I didn’t watch it when I was little because I was 2-3 years old. About a week before I got the audition, I was binging it on Netflix. When I got the role, I was like, “Wow, I’m going to be meeting the people I just saw on my TV screen.” That was really cool, but I wish I watched it when I was little.

In Season 1, we see Millicent and Freddie’s relationship evolve throughout the 10 episodes. How would you describe the working dynamic between yourself and Nathan Kress?

Jaidyn Triplett: The more episodes we do, the closer we get. I have a nickname for him now, I’ll prank his trailer. Over time, we’ve started getting closer.

As the actress playing her, do you have any ideas of where you’d like Millicent to go in future seasons or episodes?

Jaidyn Triplett: I think Nathan and I thought about this, but having an actual adoption ceremony. That would be really cool to see. For him to sign the papers and to see Millicent’s reaction. That would be really cool.

Being the ‘new person’ in any situation is difficult – however, you had Laci Mosley (Harper) with you in Season 1, going through the same thing. Would you say Millicent and Harper’s dynamic is different to the others, by being newer characters?

Jaidyn Triplett: When the whole cast first stepped onto the stage together to rehearse our first scene, we just started talking. As if we were old friends, you know. It just clicked. So, me and Laci, going into the cast and fitting in, it was so welcoming. It’s not like we had to worry about the pressure.

Season 2 of iCarly has just come out. What can you tease about what’s ahead? Classic characters and sets have already returned.

Jaidyn Triplett: In the third episode, for those who haven’t watched it, I get to speak another language. Make sure you guys tune in for that. You can see me speaking a different language, that’s really cool. Also, an original setting is going to be introduced.

Are there any other projects coming up that you can discuss at this time?

Jaidyn Triplett: Yes, I have a short film I did called 5150 which touches on mental health. I started a cooking show on my family’s YouTube channel called Triplett Family Network. I have two episodes, the next one’s going to be coming out soon. Hopefully, we can have some familiar faces for the next episodes.

In a wider sense, what would you like to accomplish with the rest of 2022?

Jaidyn Triplett: I’m starting singing because my Dad is a professional singer. I’ve discovered my love for singing and songwriting. Hopefully, I can write or release some songs, something like that. Or, maybe a movie!
