Brec Bassinger has made the leap from Nickelodeon to DC Comics. Find out how the young actress began this journey.
Brec Bassinger stars as Courtney Whitmore, the title character in Stargirl, a new series based on DC Comics that is set in the Arrowverse franchise.
So, how did the 21-year-old actress land this major role?
Perhaps unsurprisingly, this is not Brec Bassinger’s first time as the lead/title character of a television series.
From 2015 to 2016, Bassinger starred as Bella Dawson in the Nickelodeon sitcom Bella and the Bulldogs. Her co-stars included Coy Stewart, Buddy Handleson and Lilimar.
The co-creators, Gabriel Garza and Jonathan Butler, now also work on a DC Comics series, The Flash.
She had a recurring role as Emma in another Nickelodeon show, The Haunted Hathaways.
After Bella ended, Bassinger appeared in ABC’s The Goldbergs and Nickelodeon’s School of Rock, based on the 2003 Jack Black film.
In 2018, Bassinger starred as Roni Sweetzer in the Hulu comedy series All Night, which ran for one season.
Her film roles leading up to Stargirl include Status Update (2018) and 47 Meters Down; Uncaged (2019) as well as a television movie, Liar, Liar, Vampire.
Bassinger was cast as Stargirl in September 2018. Ahead of the series premiere, she made an uncredited cameo appearance on Legends of Tomorrow.
This took place during the Crisis On Infinite Earths crossover event and established the character in the Arrowverse’s continuity.
Stargirl airs on DC Universe and The CW.
