Since debuting in January 2019, The Masked Singer has been a hit. In the three seasons to date, almost fifty different celebrities have donned elaborate costumes and performed in front of the judging panel – comedian Ken Jeong, Pussycat Dolls member Nicole Scherzinger, “Blurred Lines” singer Robin Thicke and actress Jenny McCarthy.
Season three has arguably featured some of the biggest and most surprising names taking part, with the unmasked line-up to date including Lil Wayne, Chaka Khan, Dionne Warwick, Drew Carey, Rob Gronkowski and Jordyn Woods.
Going into the April 15 episode, seven contestants remain in the competition. Four – Banana, Kitty, Frog and Rhino – will perform while the other three, Astronaut, Turtle and Night Angel, qualified for the top six during the previous week.
But who exactly are the final seven? Let’s take a look and see who’s hiding under those masks.
Frog – bow wow
Rapper Shad Moss, better known as Bow Wow has been a frontrunner for Frog ever since his first performance. Clues throughout the weeks have referenced CSI (Bow Wow starred in CSI Cyber), a $106 dollar bill was featured (106 & Park) and one clue package featured a knight (Bow Wow’s character played for the “Los Angeles Knights” in Like Mike).
The Internet also seems to be behind this theory.
Banana – bret michaels
Bret Michaels was a guess on season two of The Masked Singer for “Eagle”, who was later revealed as Dr. Drew Pinsky. At the time, Michaels congratulated Pinsky for fooling the audience into thinking it was him.
Like the Banana, Michaels has recently lost his father. Wally Sychak passed away in August 2019 after suffering a cardiac arrest. Banana referenced his father’s death after performing “Lean On Me” by Bill Withers in episode six.
Other clues that refer to Michaels include a snake (referencing his band Poison) and a cowboy hat, which is synonymous with him.
Astronaut – hunter hayes
Country singer Hunter Hayes is the leading guess behind Astronaut, one of the three Group C members to reach the Super 9. A major clue pointing to Hayes is his Guinness World Record, as host Nick Cannon revealed that a member of Group C had this accomplishment.
There was a reference to Astronaut having “celebrated an important birthday in a mall” with judge Nicole Scherzinger. Well, Hayes and the Pussycat Dolls alum both performed at A Capitol Fourth in 2015 on Frank Sinatra’s birthday.
Furthermore, Astronaut sung “Signed Sealed Delivered” by Stevie Wonder, who he referred to as a close friend. Hayes and Wonder sang together on Dancing With The Stars, back in 2013.
Kitty – jackie evancho
Kitty’s true identity had been clear for some during this season of The Masked Singer. The varied guesses included names such as Sarah Hyland, Emma Watson, Sabrina Carpenter and Victoria Justice.
However, the consensus seems to have been reached that Kitty is, in fact, former America’s Got Talent contestant, Jackie Evancho. Not convinced? Allow me to explain.
Kitty referenced that the it was “lit” when she first met judge Robin Thicke. Evancho and Thicke both performed in 2011 at the Grove Christmas tree lighting and fireworks show.
A red cape refers to the fact that Evancho had once portrayed Red Riding Hood while in Elementary School, according to the Pittsburgh-Tribune Review.
Evancho being from Pittsburgh also explains the references to the Pittsburgh Pirates in Kitty’s first clue package.
Night Angel – kandi burruss
One of the Group C contestants, it seems pretty clear that the British-accented Night Angel really hails from Georgia; singer-songwriter and reality star Kandi Burruss of Real Housewives Of Atlanta.
Clues that link to Burruss include a mob of grandmothers, a reference to her restaurant “Old Lady Gang”. Additionally, a clue referring to strawberry castle refers to the restaurant’s location: Castleberry Hill.
In 2014, Burruss posted on Instagram about missing a lot of High School (including prom) to pursue her career, which lines up with the information given about the Night Angel.
Turtle – jesse mccartney
Former heartthrob of the early 2000s, the combination of Turtle’s first performance and clue package had fans guessing Jesse McCartney almost immediately. A surfboard refers to his role in the short-lived television series Summerland while Turtle walking like a Zombie refers to McCartney’s role on Fear The Walking Dead.
Turtle also refers to watching others in his field burn out around him while he personally is taking things slowly. While McCartney has yet to reach super-stardom, he is still comfortably working with no major public scandals to his name.
Turtle is the last member of Group A remaining in the competition, as well as a member of the final six, having qualified on the most recent episode.
Rhino – Barry zito
Zito is a former baseball pitcher for the Oakland Athletics and San Francisco Giants who is now a musician. His past career in baseball was referenced by a “pitcher” jug in one of the clue packages.
A blue wig corresponds with the fact that Zito’s hair was once dyed blue. Additionally, butterflies on handlebars likely refers to Zito’s song, “Butterflies”.
In a personal clue to Robin Thicke, Rhino revealed that the pair are “on the same track”. Zito’s song Butterflies featured on the soundtrack for A Thousand Words, a 2012 Eddie Murphy movie. Robin Thicke was also on the soundtrack for this film.
