WWE Mass Releases Talent Amid COVID-19 Crisis

On April 15 2020, WWE announced that several high-profile talents had been released as part of company wide cutbacks amid the COVID-19 crisis. The long list includes wrestlers, commentators producers and referees.

Hall of Famer Kurt Angle was among the departing names. He previously served as General Manager of RAW between 2017-2018 and had been inducted into the Hall as part of the 2017 class.

Also exiting are 205 Live General Manager Drake Maverick, former RAW tag team champions Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson of The O.C. and former Wyatt Family member Erick Rowan.

Heath Slater’s ten-year run with the company also came to an end while fellow long-standing performers Primo and Epico Colon were also let ago. Mike Chioda, who had worked for WWE as a referee since 1989.

The list of names also featured wrestlers Curt Hawkins, Eric Young, Lio Rush, Sarah Logan and Mike Kanellis, NXT trainer/producer Sarah Stock (known as Sarita in TNA/Impact Wrestling), commentator Aiden English and multiple producers including Mike Rotunda, Shane Helms, Lance Storm, Fit Finlay and Billy Kidman.

It is unconfirmed whether these are all the releases due to be announced today.
