EDDIE Murphy has had no shortage of hits in his decades-long entertainment career.

Whether 80s classics like Beverly Hills Cop, Coming to America and Trading Places, to the likes of Shrek, Dreamgirls and The Nutty Professor.

In his latest venture, the comedy superstar, 64, stars in upcoming Prime Video film The Pickup.

The film follows two polar opposite armoured truck drivers (played by Murphy and Pete Davidson respectively).

However, their job takes a sharp turn after being ambushed by a charming criminal mastermind (Keke Palmer).

Speaking in a global press conference ahead of the film’s release, Eddie Murphy revealed why he decided to sign on.

He said: “The script was solid when I read it. Usually, these pieces take years to develop and see a bunch of different drafts.

“This thing was like 90% there when I read it the first time. I was like, ‘Hey, this could work.’

“Then we’ve got [director Tim Story] and I was like, well, we’re making this movie.

“It just came together really quick.”

Elsewhere, co-star Keke Palmer reflected on her experience working alongside Murphy on The Pickup.

She said: “Obviously, Eddie… I think I was observing and watching him the whole time.

“Then I was happy because I asked him his favourite movie that he’s ever done.

“It was the same [as mine]– which is The Nutty Professor. Those characters that he made were so real.”

The cast also includes Eva Longoria, Andrew Dice Clay, Marshawn Lynch and WWE star Roman Reigns.

Elsewhere, Eddie Murphy recently shared an update on the long-awaited Shrek 5 – and a Donkey spin-off movie.

He originated Donkey in 2001’s Shrek, reprising the character in all sequels up to 2010’s Shrek Forever After.

Murphy told ScreenRant: “We’re still in the booth, and literally, we’re still doing Shrek.

“We start in September on Donkey, we’re doing a Donkey one, and that’ll be three years from now, but we’re about two years into Shrek 5.

“Still in the booth and about to start Donkey in September.”

The Pickup releases on Prime Video on August 6th.
