PAUL Feig has revealed a ‘wonderful’ friend of his was murdered over the weekend.
Feig created the short-lived cult TV series Freaks and Geeks and also directed 2011 hit film Bridesmaids.
According to Feig, shop owner Lauri Carlton died after a fatal gunshot in her Lake Arrowhead business, Magpi Store.
A 27-year-old man reportedly took offence to a Pride flag on display outside the store.
He is then said to have ripped the flag down.
Feig wrote when Carlton confronted the man, the 27-year-old shot her dead.
In his post, Feig remembered Carlton as a ‘wonderful friend.’
Feig wrote: “Our wonderful friend Lauri Carlton was murdered yesterday in her store in Lake Arrowhead by a 27-year-old man who didn’t like that she had a large pride flag hanging outside her shop.
“He ripped it down and when she confronted him about it, he shot and killed her.”
Paul Feig went on to express his condolences to Carlton’s family, including her husband, Bort, as well as the LGBTQ+ community, for whom she was a ‘true ally’.
He added: “Her alleged murderer was later shot and killed by the San Bernardino Police so no longer poses a threat to the community.
“This intolerance has to end.”
