After many months, an extended trailer for Season 2 of DC’s Stargirl has dropped, ahead of the show’s imminent August 10 return date on The CW.
The show was created by former DC Comics CCO Geoff Johns and based upon his Stars and Stripes comic book series. Season 1 followed Courtney Whitmore (Brec Bassinger), an ordinary teenage girl who moves from Los Angeles to small town Blue Valley, Nebraska. After going through her stepfather Pat Dugan’s (Luke Wilson) belongings, Courtney starts the journey of becoming superheroine Stargirl.
Throughout the remainder of the first season, Courtney recruits allies to join the fight as a revived Justice Society of America (JSA). By the finale, the relatively inexperienced team battle their rivals, the Injustice Society of America (ISA), ultimately, for the most part, coming out on top.
Viewers last saw Courtney and the ensemble cast in August 2020, meaning exactly a year in real time would have passed when the show eventually returns. To build up anticipation for the sophomore season, a trailer has been released by The CW, which can be seen below.
For the most part, DC’s Stargirl has been grounded in comparison to other superhero shows. If the trailer is anything to go by, it appears this will continue in Season 2. Instead of moving onto to the next battle consequence-free, the characters will face the repercussions of their actions in Season 1, most notably in the final battle against the ISA.
In addition to continuing established plot threads, it also appears new stories are on the horizon. The trailer introduces the character of Jade (played by series newcomer Ysa Penerejo), who introduces herself to Courtney as the Green Lantern’s daughter.

In the show’s continuity, Green Lantern was a member of the JSA who is deceased in the present day. His true identity in DC Comics is Alan Scott, an “older statesman” of the revered superhero society.
There is also the first glimpse of actor Jonathan Cake in character as The Shade/Richard Swift, an exiled ISA member who made a surprise reappearance at the end of Season 1. Considering most of the ISA are now either dead or out of acting, Shade and fellow newcomer Eclipso (Nick Tarabay) will presumably be the new main antagonists throughout Season 2.
Most of Season 1’s core cast is expected to return, including Brec Bassinger (Courtney Whitmore/Stargirl), Yvette Monreal (Yolanda Montez/Wildcat), Anjelika Washington (Beth Chapel/Dr. Mid-Nite), Cameron Gellman (Rick Tyler/Hourman) and Luke Wilson (Pat Dugan/STRIPE) as the core JSA members.
The show also features Hunter Sansone, Trae Romano, Meg DeLacy and Amy Smart among the primary cast.
Stargirl will return on August 10, airing on The CW
