Diversity member and TV presenter Jordan Banjo has become the first celebrity to be revealed on The Masked Dancer UK.

Following a successful season 2 of The Masked Singer UK on ITV, Joel Dommett and his cohort of celebrity detectives have returned for a whole new competition.

Rather than a third series of Masked Singer, the format has been reimagined as The Masked Dancer UK. Instead of vocal training, the contestants are likely more concerned whether or not they have two left feet.

Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall and Mo Gilligan from the regular series return as panelists/detectives. Instead of Rita Ora, they are joined by two-time Strictly Come Dancing professional champion, Oti Mabuse.

Throughout episode 1, the show introduced six of the twelve competitors taking part in the zany competition. In order of appearance, the respective characters were Zip, Knickerbocker Glory, Beetroot, Llama, Viper and Scarecrow.

The line-up faced off in one-on-one battles in order to determine a bottom three; Knickerbocker Glory, Beetroot and Viper were the unlucky ones who found themselves at risk of elimination.

This means that Zip, Llama and Scarecrow secured their safety for the next episode.

So, who went home at the end of the night?

As you *may* have already surmised from the title of this article, Viper was the unlucky first evictee. Once the mask came off, it was none other than dancer, Diversity member and TV presenter Jordan Banjo hiding underneath.

This marked a reunion between Banjo and host Joel Dommett, who appeared on I’m A Celebrity: Get Me Out Of Here together back in 2016. With this shared experience, Dommett noted the irony of Banjo’s costume choice. He wrote on Instagram under Banjo’s first post after being unmasked, “Also forgot HOW SCARED OF SNAKES YOU ARE!”

After his identity was revealed, Banjo explained he had joined the show to ‘have a laugh’ and indulge in the fun after the difficult past twelve months with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. He also revealed that his older brother, Diversity leader Ashley Banjo was the only person who knew he had joined The Masked Dancer.

There are now only eleven contestants remaining, including six who have not been introduced yet. Who will take the victory?

The Masked Dancer UK will return for Episode 2 on Sunday, May 30th on ITV.
