Hit FOX reality contest The Masked Singer took one step closer to its Season 5 finale as two more famous faces were revealed in the semi-finals.
Since it began in March 2021, Season 5 of The Masked Singer has arguably been the craziest yet. The already eclectic show has featured a diverse range of singers, actors, YouTubers and athletes in the latest line-up.
From Tyrese Gibson (“Robopine”) and Bobby Brown (“Crab”) to Caitlyn Jenner (“Phoenix”), Kermit the Frog (“Snail”) and Hanson (“Russian Dolls”), each reveal has been crazier than the last.
On the semi-final episode (May 19th), there were four contestants left in the running: Black Swan, Yeti, Chameleon and Piglet. And of course, there was also the mischievous “Cluedle-Doo”, who has been causing havoc all season.
Darius Rucker, who has previously been guessed multiple times on The Masked Singer appeared as a guest judge opposite regular panellists Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg, Nicole Scherzinger and Robin Thicke.
In the first performance of the night, Yeti performed “Celebration” by Kool & the Gang. This was followed by Black Swan singing “Tequila” by Dan + Shay.
Chameleon’s rendition of “Oh Boy” by Cam’ron feat. Juelz Santana was next and then Piglet’s “Bruises” by Lewis Capaldi. Under normal circumstances, this would have been the final performance of the night.
However, in a surprising twist, Cluedle-Doo took to the stage for the first time, as he sang “Return of The Mack” by Mark Morrison.
By the end of the episode, two performers revealed their true identities.
Cluedle-Doo was the first to be unveiled, bringing his “reign of terror” to a jaw-dropping end. Clues about the character from iHeart Radio’s official The Masked Singer podcast included they had never been on the show before and had starred in an Oscar-winning movie.
Once the mask came off, it was unveiled as none other than Donnie Wahlberg! The star of Blue Bloods is also known as an actor and for being the husband of panellist Jenny McCarthy.
The aforementioned Oscar-winning film was The Sixth Sense, where Wahlberg played a troubled former patient of Bruce Willis’ character in the opening scene.
The second reveal of the night turned out to be Yeti. This icy competitor had entered the show as a latecomer, being the fourth and final “Wildcard”, following in the footsteps of Orca (Mark McGrath), Crab (Bobby Brown) and Bulldog (Nick Cannon).
When the mask came it off, it was none other than Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter, rapper, actor and dancer Omarion hiding underneath the imposing costume. This came as a surprise, as the restrictive nature of Yeti would have made Omarion’s trademark dancing difficult.
Omarion’s close friend Shad “Bow Wow” Moss came third in Season 3 as Frog, where Omarion had been another guess for that character. Although a wildcard, Yeti/Omarion was also the last remaining member of “Group A” in this season.
Black Swan, Chameleon and Piglet are officially this season’s finalists and will battle it out next week in their last bid to win the season.
Who will take home the Golden Mask trophy? Only time will tell…
