Olympian Caitlyn Jenner has been revealed as “Phoenix” on Season 5 of FOX’s hit show The Masked Singer.
Jenner was the first contestant from Group B to be unmasked in Season 5. Her sole performance on the show was “TiK ToK” by Kesha.
In addition to Caitlyn Jenner, the other Group B performers included “Piglet”, “Chameleon”, “Black Swan” and “Grandpa Monster”. As with the show’s format, their identities all remain a mystery until they are eventually unmasked.
This is also not Caitlyn Jenner’s first time competing on reality television. The 71-year-old retired decathlete turned television personality previously appeared in both the American and UK versions of I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here in 2002 and 2019, respectively.
Jenner’s unmasking follows the surprise reveal of legendary Muppet Kermit the Frog as Group A’s Snail, in what has already been described as a ‘game changing’ season.
Of the judging panel, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg and Ken Jeong both correctly identified Caitlyn Jenner as their First Impression guess for “Phoenix”. As such, they take one step closer to the ‘Golden Ear’ trophy.
Robin Thicke guessed actress Laverne Cox could be behind the mask, while Nicole Scherzinger thought Phoenix was actually blogger/columnist Perez Hilton in her First Impression guess. She later switched to hairdresser and television personality Jonathan Van Ness as her final answer.
With Jenner’s elimination from The Masked Singer, only eight official contestants remain in play. However, there are still four yet-to-be-revealed ‘Wildcard’ performers who will enter at a later stage to try and unseat the existing singers. The identity of the show’s new clue-giving character, Cluedle-Doo, is also a mystery to be revealed further down the line.
