The Masked Singer has entertained fans around the world since debuting on FOX in January 2019. Many different celebrities have participated across three seasons. While some were obvious to deduce, others were trickier.
This led to many wrong guesses, from both the fans and the judging panel – Ken Jeong, Nicole Scherzinger, Robin Thicke and Jenny McCarthy – as to who some of the masked characters’ could really be.
With that being said, some of the names thrown out were intriguing. Some, also, would be interesting to actually have on the show. Read on to find out who they are.
Before fans heard season three’s Astronaut sing, it was believed that former NSYNC member Lance Bass was behind the mask.
Bass’ bandmate and close friend Joey Fatone was a contestant on season one, as Rabbit. This seemed like as a plausible reason why Bass would be on The Masked Singer, especially since Fatone had been responsible for another contestant’s involvement.
Alas, it was not to be, as Astronaut is predicted to be someone else entirely.
Carpenter, a former Disney Channel star on Girl Meets World and Milo Murphy’s Law, was also predicted to be under a mask in season three.
In this case, fans believed that Carpenter was the face behind the Kitty. This was among many other guesses for the feline singer.
It now seems certain exactly who Kitty is – and it’s not Carpenter.
This Swedish-born YouTuber and comedian was a guess for “Ice Cream” in season two, by judge Ken Jeong and some fans, prior to the unmasking.
This was broadly in the right direction, as then-Twitch streamer Tyler ‘Ninja’ Blevins was revealed to have been under the mask.
While PewDiePie may not have been Ice Cream, his fans would surely enjoy seeing him under a mask in the future.
Former Modern Family star Sarah Hyland was also a guess for Kitty during season three. After all, the words ‘modern family’ were in a clue package.
After hearing of the speculation, Hyland denied the rumours on Instagram although she acknowledged having much in common with the mystery performer.
Considering how excited people were by the thought of Hyland being on the show, it would be interesting for a character to actually be her.
Allen was one of the guesses for the Taco mask in season three. It seemed to make perfect sense – Allen already had a FOX connection through Last Man Standing and there was an allusion to Buzz Lightyear, one of his most famous roles, in a clue package.
Instead, Taco took us in a completely different direction when he was revealed.
Allen would be a major acquisition, however, for The Masked Singer. Perhaps the producers could take inspiration from the guesses?
Actress Mila Kunis, who has a long history with FOX through doing That 70s Show and Family Guy, was yet another guess for Kitty, who seemed to be throwing everyone off.
One of the main arguments given for Kunis being under the mask was the fact that she, like the Kitty, has hetereochromia or two different coloured eyes.
While it doesn’t seem like Kunis is on this season, there would likely be a place for her down the line.
Former child star Highmore (now the lead on ABC’s The Good Doctor) was a guess for Ice Cream before the character had performed, based on early clues.
While his busy schedule would no doubt make an appearance difficult, fans who grew up watching Highmore’s films would get a kick out of him doing The Masked Singer.
Yep, there’s another one!
Hale was also one of the many guesses for Kitty during season three and of them all, seemed to be up there with whom many believe is actually behind the mask.
Before her acting career, Hale got her start on American Idol: Juniors so she definitely has solid singing ability.
Yes, Watson was also a major guess for Kitty. Early clues referencing magic and what resembled a wizard pointed to the former Harry Potter star.
As well as this, her known love of English Literature also became relevant, as Watson has a Bachelor’s degree in the subject. Kitty shares this interest.
If Watson were to ever appear on The Masked Singer, she would be the biggest name ever.
Foxx had also been guessed by judge Jenny McCarthy for another mask – Monster – during the first season.
Perhaps to quell the speculation, Foxx appeared as a guest judge in the season three premiere, where a major name in music was unmasked.
Even so, fans continued to speculate that Foxx was somehow a season three contestant in a different group – but this doesn’t seem likely.
The Masked Singer airs Wednesdays on FOX.
